We are currently recruiting for a four year PHD studentship to work on the East Corridor Medical Engineering (ECME) project.

ECME is a project supported by the EU’s INTERREGVA Programme, managed by the Special EU Programme Body (SEUPB).

Eastern Corridor Medical Engineering (ECME) is a transformative cross-border research and innovation programme spanning Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland and adopts an inter-disciplinary approach to cardiac monitoring from hospital to home.

ECME is a cross-border partnership between the Nanotechnology and Integrated Bio-Engineering Centre (NIBEC) at the University of Ulster (UU), the Cardiac Research Unit at the Southern Health and Social Care Trust (SHSCT), NetwellCASALA and the Regulated Software Reseach Centre (RSRC) at Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT), the Biomedial Diagnostics Institute (BDI) at Dublin City University (DCU), Applied Research for Connected Health (ARCH) at University College Dublin (UCD) and the Department of Diabetes and Cardiovascular Science/Rural Health at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). ECME creates a cross-border centre of excellence in the field of cardiovascular medicine with a focus on wearables and remote monitoring through PhD studentships, industry engagement, dissemination and platform development.

PhD Studentship - Designing digital behaviour change interventions to support older adults managing cardiac conditions.

Applications are invited for a fully funded four year Ph.D studentship based in the NetwellCasala Centre (DkIT) commencing October 2017. This studentship includes provision of postgraduate fees, running costs, a generous travel and training allowance and an annual stipend of €18,500.

This studentship will explore design strategies to implement multiple behavior change interventions in older people with heart conditions and co-morbidities. It will examine the effectiveness of these techniques over a trial period and investigate the impact of the technology on supporting / inhibiting behavior change.** **Opportunities for training will be provided across a wide range of transferable skills including business, leadership, entrepreneurism and personal effectiveness.

Eligibility: Candidates should hold, or expect to hold a 1st or 2.1 honours degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Psychology or a related discipline. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. If not a native English speaker, provide evidence of IELT English proficiency, or equivalent, at level 6.5 or above.
