Researcher sought to apply for Assistid Marie Curie Fellowship

We are seeking a researcher to apply to the Assistid Programme as an incoming fellow, through NetwellCASALA in Dundalk Institute of Technology, in collaboration with avail. The project will explore the role of using multimedia prompts on smart devices to enhance independence for people with Autism Spectrum Disorders or Intellectual Disability. avail have developed an application that enables facilitators to create individualised, multimedia prompts of a person’s daily tasks using a smart device. The person with ASD or ID then receives step-by-step prompts of a specific task using the app. The assessment system guides the facilitator to assess learning and fade-back prompts to ensure independence is maximised. Daily activities and learning are monitored using real-time technology and stored on the avail web portal. This data is used to facilitate individualised reports and person-centred planning.

The main goal of the project should involve a detailed field evaluation of the usage of the application in practice, including its effectiveness and user experience. Therefore, the potential fellow should have a background in Applied Behaviour Analysis, Psychology, Human Computer Interaction or a related discipline. Experience in conducting field trials and working with individuals with ASD/ID would be beneficial.

The incoming fellow will need to develop a proposal on this for submission to the Assistid Programme by June 30th 2016. More details on the fellowships, including eligibility criteria, can be found here. Interested people should contact Dr. Julie Doyle at Julie.doyle@casala.ie.
